Doulas, lactation & sleep consultants in the Netherlands

The people in this category work with you in the weeks either side of a birth, and mostly in your own living room. Ten are listed: birth and postpartum doulas, IBCLC lactation consultants for feeding that is not going to plan, and certified sleep coaches for babies and toddlers who are not sleeping. Every one of them works in English and four also in Dutch, and nine will come to your home — in Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Zaandam, Purmerend, Hoofddorp, Almere and Hoorn. Five also consult online, which is often enough to build a sleep plan wherever in the country you live.

Common questions

Answered from what is actually listed on this page, not from a template.

Do doulas in the Netherlands speak English?

All ten doulas, lactation consultants and sleep consultants listed here work in English, and four also work in Dutch. The Dutch birth-support community is largely international, particularly in Amsterdam and the wider Randstad, so an English-speaking birth or postpartum doula is the norm here rather than the exception.

Will a lactation consultant or doula come to my home?

Usually, yes. Nine of the ten listings include home visits, which for feeding support in the first weeks is rather the point — an IBCLC needs to see how you and the baby actually latch. Three also see clients at their own practice, and five offer online consultations, which travel further than a home visit does.

What does a doula or sleep consultant cost in the Netherlands?

Published starting prices on this page run from about €30 for a single online sleep call to around €1,500 for full birth-doula support through pregnancy, labour and the postpartum weeks. Lactation consultations sit in between, and some Dutch insurers reimburse part of an IBCLC visit — check your policy before you book.
