Holiday camps near Amsterdam
This is a young section and we would rather say so than pad it. Every camp here is one we have checked runs a genuine holiday programme — not a venue that happens to be open in August.

Camp weeks you can book right now

The things nobody explains at the school gate
The four questions we are asked most — including the one about kinderopvangtoeslag that most families get wrong.
What is the difference between a BSO and a holiday camp?
A BSO (buitenschoolse opvang) is registered after-school childcare, and most run vakantieopvang through the school breaks for children already on their books. A holiday camp is usually a private activity week — sport, science, art, drama — at one venue, open to anyone. The differences that matter: a BSO carries an LRK registration number and most camps do not, BSO hours are built around a working day, and a camp week is built around an activity.
Does kinderopvangtoeslag apply to a holiday camp?
Usually not. Kinderopvangtoeslag is childcare benefit, not camp benefit: it is paid towards registered childcare. Holiday care through a registered BSO normally falls inside that; a private activity camp generally does not, however childcare-shaped it looks. Ask the provider for their LRK number — if they cannot produce one, treat the price as the price. Rates and rules change every year, so check your own situation on belastingdienst.nl/toeslagen before you count on a contribution.
What ages are holiday camps for?
Most take children from about 4 to 12, split into two or three age groups. Ask for the age band of the week you are booking rather than of the venue: a place that runs baby classes and teenage football camps has both numbers on its website, and only one of them is about your child's week.
What if my child does not speak Dutch yet?
Plenty of camps around Amsterdam run in English, in Dutch, or comfortably in both — but ask two separate questions, because they have different answers: what language are instructions given in, and what language do the children speak to each other? A camp built around an activity carries a new arrival far better than one built around conversation. Say so when you book.

General information for parents, not legal, financial or childcare advice — rules, dates and allowances change, so confirm the details with the camp, your school and the Belastingdienst before you book.

Run a holiday camp? List it free.
We are building this section deliberately — a short list of camps we can stand behind rather than a long one nobody trusts. If you run holiday programmes for children anywhere around Amsterdam, we would like you on it.
- Free to list, no commission on your own bookings
- Add each camp week with its own dates and prices
- Reach parents already searching for the exact week
Know a camp your kids loved?
Tell us and we will go and get them. Half of what ends up on this page starts as a parent saying "you should have the one we used in July".
