Ombretta has worked as a birth doula in Amsterdam since 2019, in English and Italian, with Dutch and international families. Her packages include prenatal visits in your own home, partner preparation, being on call from week 37, continuous support through labour wherever you give birth – home, birth centre or hospital, including VBAC, induction and caesarean – and a postnatal visit. Longer packages add Ayurvedic postpartum home visits across the first forty days. She starts with a free intro call and publishes a sliding scale.

The Threshold - Birth Doula

Continuous birth doula support through pregnancy, labour and the first hours after birth. Sliding-scale rates: full 2200, middle 1870, community 1430, incl. VAT.

The Illuminated Threshold - Birth Doula & Childbirth Education

Birth doula support plus three private childbirth education sessions before labour. Sliding scale from 1690 (community rate).

Everything in The Threshold plus a postpartum planning session and five Ayurvedic home visits across the 40-day window. Sliding scale from 2405.

The Bridge - last-minute birth support

What does a birth doula actually do that my midwife does not?

She is explicit that she is not a medical professional and does not do clinical tasks, give medical advice or make decisions for you. Your midwife or obstetrician carries the clinical responsibility; her job is continuous presence - no shift changes, no second client in labour - plus comfort measures, explaining what is being offered, and preparing your partner.

How much does it cost, and is there anything cheaper than the full package?

The Bridge, a last-minute package bookable from week 37, is a fixed 1,500 euro. The standard Threshold package is 2,200 euro, and combined birth-plus-Ayurvedic-postpartum packages run to 3,700 euro. All prices include 21% VAT and exclude travel and parking. Most packages are also available on a published sliding scale with middle and community rates.

Can we meet before we commit?

Yes, there is a free intro call of roughly 30 to 45 minutes, and she prefers your partner to join so they can ask their own questions. If you decide to go ahead you get a contract within 24 hours and a retainer secures the date.
