What kind of events appear here?

Children’s cooking and baking workshops, family pancake and pizza sessions, neighbourhood meals open to everyone, seasonal food days, and parent-and-baby coffee mornings. The common thread is a table rather than a stage. Anything that is mainly a festival with food at it is filed under Festivals & community instead, which is worth a look if this page is thin.

Are they suitable for young children?

Cooking workshops usually set a minimum age — often around six, because of knives and ovens — while baking and decorating sessions go younger, and community meals take all ages by definition. Each listing carries the organiser’s own guidance. Parent socials are for the adults, with babies welcome and older children generally not the point.

Why are there so few listings here?

Because this kind of event is genuinely less programmed than theatre or music: a neighbourhood dinner is announced three weeks out, not three months. This page fills and empties faster than the others. New events are added weekly as they are published, so it is worth a look again nearer the weekend rather than writing the category off.

Food events & family socials in the Netherlands

The eating-together category: children’s cooking and baking workshops — a kookworkshop, on a Dutch poster — pancake and pizza mornings, community meals where a neighbourhood cooks for itself, and the parent socials where the point is as much the other adults as the food. It is the quietest corner of this calendar — these events are often organised late and announced a fortnight ahead — so it is worth checking back rather than assuming. If it is empty today, the festivals and community page usually has something with a food stall attached.
