Most of it is, but far less of it depends on language than you would expect. Where a production is played in English, or is billed as language-no-problem, the listing says so.

What do the age numbers on a show mean?

A Dutch theatre will print something like 2+, 6+ or 9+ on every children’s production, and it is the company’s own judgement about who the piece was made for rather than a minimum admission age. Venues do enforce it at the lower end — a two-year-old at a show built for eights is unhappy long before the interval. If your child sits just under the line, ring the box office; they will tell you honestly.

How far ahead should we book?

Weekend and school-holiday performances at the bigger children’s houses sell out weeks in advance, especially anything on a Sunday afternoon. Midweek shows are usually available much later. Tickets go through the theatre’s own box office, which is what each listing links to, and most venues will swap a date if you ask early enough.
