Meervaart in Amsterdam hosts a double screening of two documentaries by Abdelkarim and Asma El-Fassi. After the films, the makers talk with the audience about the films and how they inspired their fiction debut ‘Porte Bagage’.
‘My Father the Expat’ follows Ali, who came to earn money and planned to return to Morocco. ‘When Mom Left for Mars’ is about Noha, who followed her husband and left her parents behind. She built a new life as a mother of nine children in a country that was strange to her. Together the films form a personal diptych about migration, family, and identity.
The event is in the Rode Zaal. Doors open at 13:30, with a short introduction at 13:45, the first film at 14:00, a 10-minute break, the second film around 15:00, and an aftertalk around 15:50. The films are in Dutch and Tamazight with Dutch subtitles. The whole event lasts 2 hours and 20 minutes. Tickets for Rang 1 are € 25,00, or € 3,50 with Stadspas. Prices include a drink and exclude € 2,00 booking fees per booking. Stadspas discount reservations can only be made by email. An interval drink is ready in the foyer afterwards.
