At Theater De Krakeling in Amsterdam, the children’s book Lennox en de gouden sikkel by Zindzi Zevenbergen, Hedy Tjin and Brian Elstak has been adapted into a dynamic hiphop opera by RIGHTABOUTNOW INC. and De Nationale Opera. The story follows Lennox, who knows his father has a mysterious illness but is not told what is wrong. When his father forgets his lucky necklace before a hospital appointment, Lennox and his best friend go after him.
Multi-instrumentalist and producer Bnnyhunna (Benjamin Ankomah) writes his first opera with Lennox. For the composition he works with Neo Muyuanga, the composer of Hoe ANANSI de stories of the world bevrijdde. The book won Zindzi Zevenbergen the Zilveren Griffel in 2022, and Hedy Tjin and Brian Elstak won the Zilveren Penseel. Their lively illustrations are a major visual inspiration for the performance. It’s on 21 November 2026 at 16:00 at Nieuwe Passeerdersstraat 1, 1016 XP Amsterdam.
