About

Carine Kielstra is a child and family psychologist who works with parents on the things that wear a family down: mealtimes, bedtimes, screen-time rows, tantrums, or a child struggling at school. She builds a plan with you rather than handing over a rulebook, drawing on Triple P, CBT, ACT and Attachment-Based Family Therapy, with a particular focus on expat families and teenage depression. Sessions take place online, at your home, at her practice or at the International School of Amsterdam, in English or Dutch.

Frequently asked

How many sessions does support usually take?

Standard support is four to six weekly sessions of roughly one hour each.

What methods do you use?

Only evidence-based interventions, tailored to the family. Frequently used ones include New Authority / non-violent resistance, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Triple P, CBT, ACT, Kids' Skills, Write Junior and the 'Samen Sterk' programme for parents of teenagers with depression.

Do you work with the child's school?

Yes. She observes children in class and at break, works with teachers so that parents, school and therapist apply the same strategies, and charges a separate rate for consultations with third parties such as a school or GP.
