Amsterdam is a small city to be a child in, which is its great advantage: almost nothing is more than twenty minutes away by bike or tram, and the GVB carries under-fours free. The centre is where the big museums and the canal boats are, and it is also where the crowds and the cobbles are, so a buggy does better in the ring of parks around it — the Vondelpark, the Westerpark, the Oosterpark, the Amstelpark. Every neighbourhood has a free kinderboerderij and a playground within walking distance, and most cafés will find you a high chair without being asked.
