Studio Figur and Dawn Collective join forces for Kakek, Opa & Ik at Meervaart in Amsterdam on 18 October 2026 from 14:00 to 15:00. It is a family performance about heritage and identity with puppetry and live music.
In the story, Novi dives into her family’s hidden stories through old photos, letters and music. What starts as a playful discovery becomes a journey through a shared colonial past that still affects the present. She feels like a storm lives in her chest. Without knowing why, she flees to the attic. There she meets two mysterious figures who take her into photo albums full of memories. She travels back in time and finds stories that stayed hidden. It becomes clear her anger may be older than she is, and that feelings can move from generation to generation. Understanding begins with looking, listening and feeling.
Creator Noufri Bachdim weaves his personal family history with the shared history of the Netherlands and Indonesia. The performance is about heritage, memories and healing.
Good to know: Specially made for children from 7 years old and anyone who ever had questions about ‘the past’.
