The Family Assistant
Nanny and family assistant placement agency
About
If you need more than an after-school sitter, The Family Assistant matches families with full-time nannies and family assistants who work in your own home. They ask their nannies for a pedagogical diploma, a first-aid certificate for babies and children, demonstrable experience and at least two checked references, then keep coaching them through the agency’s own e-learning and masterclasses. They have a dedicated service for expat families settling in Amsterdam, and placements start from around 30 hours a week, three to five days.

Frequently asked
How are the nannies checked before they come to my home?
The agency screens every candidate on at least two references and looks for a pedagogical diploma, a first-aid certificate for babies and children, and demonstrable work experience with children. Nannies also complete the agency's own e-learning and are coached once they are placed.
Is this suitable if we only need a few hours of babysitting?
No. Their nannies work from roughly 30 hours a week for a single family, typically three to five days, on a salaried basis. It is set up for ongoing daily care rather than occasional evening sitting.
We have just moved to Amsterdam and do not speak Dutch. Can they help?
Yes. They run a separate service for expat families and handle the whole process from screening to onboarding. They can look for someone who speaks a particular language, and their nannies and family assistants often help with practical settling-in tasks such as municipality paperwork, school searches and local admin.
