3 festive spots to take the kids skating in Amsterdam

The festive season is here and the ice skating rinks have opened their doors, creating a cozy and wintery atmosphere.

Unfortunately this year the famous installation of the icerink at Museumplein will not be opened.  However there will still be a winter market held between Wednesday 13 December to Tuesday 26 December.

There are however still 3 great options where you can enjoy ice skating with kids during the winter months. Here are some popular spots for ice skating in Amsterdam:

1.Rembrandplein

A small but cosy ice-skating rink, loved by tourists and locals. This central skating spot is a good place to take the kids.

Enjoy a glass of mulled wine, savor typical winter delicacies, explore the nearby eateries, and relish the inviting atmosphere of Rembrandtplein itself. Together, these elements make the ice rink a delightful winter excursion in the heart of Amsterdam.

2. Jaap Eden Ice Rink:

Jaap Eden Ice Rink is a well-known ice skating venue in Amsterdam. It has both an indoor and an outdoor rink, making it suitable for skating throughout the year. During winter, the outdoor rink provides a great setting for family skating.

3. Winter Village at Amstelpark:

Amstelpark hosts a Winter Village during the colder months, featuring an ice rink among other winter activities. It’s a family-friendly setting with a festive atmosphere. It opens officially from the 14th December through to the 30th December.

Remember that the availability of ice rinks can vary each year, so it’s a good idea to check in advance to see if a particular location is hosting a temporary ice rink or if the natural ice conditions are suitable for skating. Additionally, some indoor ice rinks offer family-friendly sessions with special facilities for children, such as ice aids for beginners. Always check the opening hours and any specific rules or requirements for each skating venue.
